Just a few years after its invention, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing is already having a major impact on biomedical research, making it easy to silence genes one at a time to see what they do. While it can introduce specific mutations into genes to find out why they predispose people to diseases, the ability to alter the genome of any organisms on earth is a concern. Vicente Perez-Garcia, part of Myriam Hemberger's research group at the ÐßÐßÊÓƵ, explains the principles of the technique and how he uses it in his research.
